Label Maintenance

Description

Every screen in the Aumentum Platform, as well as every field, button, panel, grid, etc. shown on the screen, is a distinct object. Most of these objects have a label associated with them. In Aumentum, each label is more than just a snippet of text, it also has properties that determine how and what is displayed on the screen. These properties include the actual text displayed, the language used for the text, and any Help information (such as in-line or bubble help).

Since the labels are so multi-faceted, we will refer to them here as label objects and the on-screen text that you would normally think of as a "label" (which is just one attribute of the label object) is called the displayed label text.

All displayed label text is specified before installation, but you can customize Aumentum by overriding text here.

IMPORTANT: Any change made to a unique label object's label text will affect every instance where that label object is displayed, either by screen or by module. Also, every user in your county will see the same label text, so take care when changing any label text to be sure it won't cause confusion.

Steps

  1. Select an application/module from the Application drop-down list to view its label objects.

  2. Select the Label object category to limit the list of label objects to view. You can also select all categories. The label objects for the selected application and category display in the grid.

  3. Click on an item in the grid to edit it on the Add or Edit a Label screen or click New to add a new item on the Add or Edit a Label screen.

CAUTION: If you try to create a new label entry, you may not get the results you expect. The label object name is usually the same as the original text displayed on the screen, but not in all cases. Therefore, if an entry does not exist for a label object name matching text which you see on the screen, and you make a new entry using the displayed text as the label object name, it is not guaranteed that the displayed label text you enter will actually appear.

  4. Click Close to end the task.

Tips

Label text is assigned to a label object based on the module it is used in. There are also global labels objects whose label text is also global and thus appears throughout Aumentum, but most label objects and their label text are specific to a single module of Aumentum.

When there are more label objects than can be displayed in the grid, the number of pages of results is displayed, along with the current page. Click the arrows to move through the pages, or enter the page number you wish to see and press TAB.

The label grid is not sortable by column, but the labels displayed can be limited and are sorted differently depending on the module and label object category selections.

  • When you have selected to view labels for All Applications and All Label Types, the labels are sorted in purely alphabetical order.

  • When you have selected to view labels for a specific module or for global labels (where the module is blank), the labels are sorted by label category (if All Label Types is selected), view name, and label object name.

  • When you have selected to view labels for a specific label category, the labels are sorted by module (if All Applications is selected), view name, and label object name.

Prerequisites

Configuration Menu

  • From time to time, a mass update of the Aumentum label table is issued. However, when you override label text, your changes will be preserved during such an update.
